People who used to be overweight in fact still see themselves as fat figure even though they are not fat anymore. Oftentimes, they look into the mirror and still see the fat reflection as the way they are previously. It is related to their self-image that is hard to be changed. In fact, many people as not happy as they should be when they are managed to lose weight. It is because the way they look is not the same with what they are expected. They expect to see a slim and gorgeous person just like what they see on the television or magazine. But the reality is they may have cellulite or sagging skin that is still bothering them. This fact disappoints them.
The phenomenon of feeling fat after losing weight is called “phantom fat”. Those people who suffer from “phantom fat” still carry the image that they are fat inside their mind. The truth is body image or how the people see and feel about their body is harder to change than the physical body. Besides that, it shows that they are afraid that the new image will not stand for long. That’s why they prefer to see themselves as fat person.
